How to prevent permanent loss of files

How to prevent permanent loss of files

We present below a few types of problems a hard drive can encounter and the indicated decisions in case you are interested to recover your files.

THE HARD DRIVE MAKES UNUSUAL NOISES

  • do not try to use utility software programs for data recovery, these sounds usually indicate a defect in the reading heads; operation of the hard drive in such conditions may lead to permanent loss of data
  • turn off the computer in order to prevent damaging the platters and the existing data
  • do not attempt to restart the computer
  • send the hard drive to a service specialized in data recovery

ACCIDENTAL FORMATTING, DELETION OF FILES OR DIRECTORIES

  • do not add other data (files) on the hard drive if there has been an accidental deletion or formatting
  • do not create new files having the same name as that of the files accidentally deleted

ACCIDENTAL REPARTITIONING

  • do not attempt to reinstall the operating system
  • do not add other data on the hard drive

In most cases, it so happens that you make precisely the mistakes stated above and thus make the file recovery process more difficult.
